Home Drawing Lessons

By posted in

We are completely thrilled — our new home drawing lessons will arrive next week. We'd contacted Larry Gluck's Mission Renaissance about taking his courses. Not out of the blue, mind you, but we'd heard of The Gluck Method for years — the word on the street was that it was a method of teaching art basics and how-to's so that you come out able to draw and paint.

Not only that, but a friend had taken the courses (I think it's one per week) and had suddenly bloomed into a painter. Including redoing her home into quite the aesthetic abode, something we hadn't seen from her pre-Gluck Method. (Found some testimonials on their site.)

So we'd contacted the exceptionally nice folks at Mission Renaissance about the classes. Thing is, like any truly hardcore Web person <don't even ask>, we didn't actually want to go anywhere. At least anywhere where we couldn't determine our schedule and, like, check email every five minutes. Pffft to that! Some other month. And that's what we told them. It was always going to be a couple of months from now, whenever "now" happened to be.

Nevertheless, the fine folks at Mission Renaissance noted our interest and have been dutifully calling every month or so, just for the pleasure of hearing our excuse-du-jour. I'm quite glad they did, because yesterday, after hearing us launch into the "Ahhh, well …" prelude-to-an-excuse, she interjected that she "just wanted to say that the home drawing course is cheaper now". Whoa. There's a home drawing course?

Suffice it to say that part one of the course is ridiculously cheap; I think it was $60 for the DVD and whatever, plus $30 for the materials (hey; if we need an art course, I likely don't know what materials we need, so send 'em) and a little shipping. Lovely.

It'll all arrive in about a week or so, which is good since we're also awaiting some marketing books from Amazon.com <yes, we are boring> and West Wing Season Six <we know — too much information> … but we are truly looking forward to this.

Ah. They have a Free Online Lesson. Enjoy.

    Hi,

I would like to thank you for the wonderful article you wrote about us. Larry would like me to send you a gift in show of our appreciation. Who do I send it and where? I look forward to your reply!

How did the lessons at home go? How much did you learn?

To be honest, our work schedule has been pretty intense, such that I hadn't gotten to it yet. But now that you've reminded me, I'm promising myself that I'll start by Christmas. And I'll post here.

However, I have a few friends who swear by it. One in particular; her home was however it was, and then suddenly there were paintings, there was a complete visual renovation. Who knew?! <grin>

I'm sorry; I haven't. By day (and evening), I run our web design studio, which takes a lot of time and involvement. But I'm gonna. <grin>

I do have a few friends who swear by the Gluck Method, however, and I did find some student testimonials at TheGluckMethod.com — perhaps those will help you to decide?

Yikes. It's been six months since I purchased this; I *will* start soon.
